The Stitching Place - Indianola, Iowa

I've recently started looking up quilting shops to visit when we're away from home. Last weekend, we went to Iowa to visit my husband's family so I made a list of a few shops to visit while we were there. I found a couple of shops in Des Moines, but I was surprised to find a listing for a shop in the little town of Indianola, where my in-laws live.

Most of my trips into fabric shops are pretty quick -- I check out the fabrics and either leave disappointed or leave with one or two okay fabrics. This was a different experience - I LOVED this shop and could have gotten much more than the seven different fabrics I did buy! The selection is huge, the shop is fun to browse, the owner Eileen is friendly and helpful and you can tell she loves what she does.

The Stitching Place is right on the square in Indianola:

They have all of these little rooms, most of which have fabrics and/or projects and patterns on display and available for purchase:

Then there is a huge wall of fabric that runs almost the entire depth of the store ... it's like a massive fabric library!

In the end, I walked out with seven great fabrics:

My previous record for fabrics found at one store is three (I think) and I accomplished that at Hancock a couple of weeks ago when I got two solid blue options and a muslin. This is a much more fun record! This gives me all sorts of options that could add interest for Baby Boy's quilt. I probably won't end up using all of the fabrics I have, but here are my options for the pending quilt:

Yea! So fun! :o) Now I'm ready to wash fabrics and get rolling on this little quilt. I'll keep you posted as I move forward.

Anyway, if you're in the Des Moines area, it's worth the 15-mile drive south to Indianola to visit Eileen and The Stitching Place -- you won't be disappointed!
